Pattern for Peace 6/20/2016

Standard

Hello wonderful family and friends!

6202016

We unintentionally both wore polka-dot skirts – we had to take a selfie!!Β

I’m sorry for the short email this week.

This week was marvelous!
We had some great lessons with investigators. We picked up two new people! I’m excited to teach them. We also had a lesson with Kaite. She’s the best member missionary ever!! She took us out to eat and invited her friend who came to the temple ground tours. We had a good time and Kaite invited her to our lesson afterwords at the church! We taught the Restoration and invited Anna to be baptized and she said YES! AAAHHH!! The only thing is, she’s not in our ward. 😦 But the missionaries in Webster Groves just got the best referral ever!
Guess who came to church yesterday?? LYNN!!! She’s a less active recent convert. We’ve been working with her for 11 weeks and SHE FINALLY CAME!!!! Elder Johnson always said “she won’t come, she’s been saying she’d come for 4 months and never does” Well she did. πŸ™‚ The elders couldn’t believe it! Happy moment.
We also met the spunkiest oldest person ever! She can’t come to church anymore for health reasons. We went to visit her and she is just so happy! She has the best attitude in the world! She kept giving us food telling us we were too skinny. I admire people who are positive and find the good things in life. She’s such a great example of that. She just kept smiling and laughing! πŸ™‚
We had exchanges this week! I went to Fenton with Sister Bishop. It was so good! I had a lot of fun and learned so much! We got along super well and had some good chats.
We did some tracting and street contacting this week.

We’ve met some interesting people. That’s one of my favorite parts of my mission, all the people I meet. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and the blessing of sharing the gospel! The scriptures are the greatest. I’ve grown to love and appreciate them so much! They teach us the gospel!
I studied a talk from General Conference this week. It talks about the pattern for peace. It’s all from D&C 19:23 “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.” Β Learn, listen, walk. Isn’t that the best!! Learn of the Savior, strengthen your relationship with Him. Listen to His words in the scriptures or the words of modern Prophets and Apostles. Walk in His ways, follow His example and live the gospel. That’s what you need to have peace! I love it. πŸ™‚ The gospel is true!
I hope you all have a great week! I love you! Thanks for everything!

Temple Grounds Tours! 6/13/2016

Standard
Hello wonderful family and friends!!

This week was terrific!

Last Monday we went to the City Museum! It’s the giant adult playground. We
had a blast! We went down a 10 story slide and got lost in the tunnels. πŸ™‚
On Monday evening, we helped a less active pack for her move this weekend.
We also had a great lesson with her. She is super spunky and fun. She has
the cutest dog! Her name is Love and loves to cuddle. Β On our way home that
night, we drove past a small field and saw the COOLEST THING!! We pulled
over, there were thousands of fireflies going off all at once! It was
amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it! Missouri is awesome.

Tuesday was great too! So, last week we had a famine of having no
investigators. We did so much finding with no success. This week, on
Tuesday we were blessed for our efforts! We found two new investigators and
some super solid potentials!! πŸ™‚ #TenderMercies Β One of our new
investigators is from a part member family. Her name is Patty. She’s been
taught by missionaries before and says she’ll “never convert” but both
Sister Lyons and I feel good about teaching her still. They are a sweet
family. Actually, they are the parents of our ward mission leader! We also
found a girl named Nikki. She was tired of religions telling her what to
do. We talked about how she could find out for herself if the Book of
Mormon and what we teach is true and she loved that! She is so ready for
the gospel! πŸ™‚

We tried to get creative with finding this week. We went to a park and drew
the Plan of Salvation in chalk and talked to people about it as they walked
passed. It was great! There were a few people who were sort of interested.
It was fun nonetheless. πŸ™‚

Plan fo Salv at Park 6132016

We had some great less active lessons too! Christina did the coolest thing.
She committed herself to read the scriptures every day!! I love it when
less actives come to church. It’s such a big step in their progression and
they are able to renew that covenant.

We also had Temple Ground Tours again!! It was so amazing!!! We had some
less actives and recent converts come. πŸ™‚ A lady in our ward is engaged to
a non member. They both came to the tour and loved it! We were able to give
them a personal tour because they came a bit early. When we took them into
the foyer, Doris felt the spirit so strong! She is so excited to work
towards the temple. πŸ™‚ Lynn and Abby, recent convert less actives, came as
well! The Elders are working with them too. Lynn hasn’t been to church in a
couple months and Abby works on Sundays now. They both came!! Us and the
Elders about died out of happiness! Kaite and Ryan also came. Kaite brought
a friend from work. Her name is Hannah and she LOVED the temple!! We
invited her to learn more and meet with the missionaries and she said YES!
Only thing is.. she’s not in our ward. 😦 But the Webster Groves
missionaries will teach her. These temple tours bring miracles! πŸ™‚

I read Alma 5 in my studies this morning. It’s one of my favorite chapters
in the Book of Mormon. My favorite verse from this chapter is verse 26 “And
now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of
heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask,
can ye feel so now?” This has grown to mean a lot to me. Β IT IS POSSIBLE to
feel so now. We all go through spiritual highs and lows in life but we are
entitled to feel God’s love and the blessings of the gospel! He wants us to
feel it! It’s a great question to ask yourself, can ye feel so now?
Evaluate your testimony, see what you need to improve and strengthen it.
The gospel has SO MANY BLESSINGS!! It brings me so much joy! I love being a
missionary and sharing that with people! πŸ™‚ It’s the greatest.

Thank you all for your love and support! I love you! Β Have a great week!
Don’t forget to pray! πŸ™‚

Wonderful family! I love you all!

Well we had a great week this week!

We had some great lessons with less actives and recent converts and did a TON of finding.

Kate is still doing well! She went on a mini mission in Glen Carbon, IL. She LOVED it!!! She said it was the greatest experience and was a huge testimony builder! I am so happy she enjoyed it! She is super pumped to go on a mission next year. πŸ™‚ It still blows my mind how prepared she was to be baptized.

We met some new less actives this week! We met Kathy, she grew up a member but has fallen in and out of activity. She is ready and trying to regain her testimony and changing. She just finished the Book of Mormon in 90 days and bore a beautiful testimony of it in Gospel Principles yesterday. The Book of Mormon is so powerful! It truly is the word of God.

Swing Selfie 662016

Swing Selfie #HarderThanItLooks

We met Muniba, she’s from Bosnia. There is a massive Bosnian population in St. Louis. Refugees from the war when it started. They all have amazing stories! Muniba told us her story of how she was converted and the rest of her family were converted because of her. Like 30 people!!! So cool.

We also met with Lynda and Emily. I don’t remember if I told yall about them. We just got their records in the ward but they’ve been here for a while. We invited them to take the missionary lessons last week and taught the Restoration this week! Emily is 16 and loves the gospel! She’s super shy and is working at feeling comfortable in Young Womans. Lynda is her mom and has a great testimony. πŸ™‚

We also met with Carol again. She is so close to coming to church. SO CLOSE!!! She has been praying every day and keeping other commitments! I think I might pass out when she comes to church. I can’t wait! πŸ™‚

We had Zone Conference this week!! It was President and Sister Morgan’s last Zone Conference. It is so sad to see them reach the end of their mission. I love them and they’ve helped me grow. We learned all about the Temple and helping our investigators, recent converts and less actives catch the vision of the temple. I’ve learned so much about the Temple on my mission and gained a greater appreciation of it. Even though we can’t go very often, I can feel the blessings from it. We get to do the temple grounds tours again this week. I’m so excited for them! So many miracles come from it!!!

T w Morgans 662016

Last Zone Conference with the Morgans!!!

I learned a lot from Sister Morgan’s training. She talked about how we can learn and grow from hard times. Instead of saying “why is this happening to me?” we should say, “What can I learn from this experience?” I have a HUGE testimony of how trials make us stronger. Heavenly Father knows us and what we need to experience in this life. He knows what will make us grow. He loves us. πŸ™‚

President Morgan taught us to stay converted to the gospel. He bore a powerful testimony of our Savior and his love for Him. I’m so thankful for the Morgans. They have taught me so much and I will miss them dearly.

Awesome tidbit of awesomeness: I GOT TO CALL SISTER BUSTILLOS! President Morgan gave me permission to call her after Zone Conference. She’s doing so well in Mexico, MO. Yep, it’s a place. I’m glad she’s back. πŸ™‚

Shout out to my fabulous mother because yesterday was HER BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!

We’ve had some crazy adventures this week. haha. Fun stuff.

So we sort of got stuck in the mud.. “how can you get stuck in the mud when you drive a Corolla?” you may ask…. Well, it’s possible. We pulled over and what we thought was dirt, was mud. Then Sister Lyons stepped in it thinking it was dirt too. It was a mess! And we had car inspections this week. πŸ™‚ Good thing it was on Monday so we went to the car wash and sprayed of our tire and her foot. We were laughing so hard!

Mudding without a Jeep

Mudding without a Jeep!!

We also went to a park for Weekly Planning and Comp Inventory. So we went on the swings. πŸ™‚ Have you ever tried to take a selfie while swinging??? Well, it’s really hard.

OH! Also, I caught a fire fly! I’ve always wanted to catch one and I finally did! #CheckingThatOffMyBucketList Β They are pretty easy to catch.. They fly slow. That’s the reason for the subject line in case you were wondering. πŸ˜‰

FireFLY 662016

I CAUGHT A FIRE FLY!!!

All in all, it’s been a good week. Like I said earlier, we did a ton of finding. Our investigators are dropping us like flies. We did more finding this week than ever and only found one solid potential. That’s been the struggle of the week but I am learning patience and to have faith in the Lord and His timing. πŸ™‚ We were able to focus more on less actives this week. When life gives you lemons. πŸ™‚

Hello family!

Sorry for the short email this week. It’s a Tuesday. πŸ™‚
T plus Arch SL 5312016
We had a great week this week!
On Monday, we went to the arch and the cathedral basilica in the city! It was Sister Lyons’ first time there. The arch is still under construction so we couldn’t get too close to it. We also went to Seoul Taco! It’s that one place where you get Korean food in a tortilla. #Genius πŸ™‚
Burrito T 5312016
Miracle of the week: So we got dropped a lot this week (not the miracle yet..) so we did a lot of finding! We went tracting without a ton of success. BUT. While we were tracting we talked to someone on the street. Her name is Jessica and she was walking her dog, we started talking and she told us she had been thinking she had wanted to start getting into church! She kept telling us what a miracle it was that we ran into her! She’s going through a lot and I hope she stays solid. But it was a much needed tender mercy. πŸ™‚
We had District Meeting on Thursday and got to meet our new district! Everyone is training and we had 3 new missionaries there! It was great! I love greenie missionary fire!
Speaking of greenie missionary fire… SISTER BUSTILLOS IS COMING BACK!!!!!!!!! She’s my MTC companion from California. She re-submitted her papers and got a call last Thursday saying that she’ll be leaving on Tuesday!!!! I am so excited! πŸ™‚ Happy day. I’m happy for her and that she’s coming back to Missouri.
On Sunday, we had the best member present lesson ever! Our Bishop and his wife invited us and Kate for dinner and FHE at their home. It was perfect and Kate had a good time. They had great input for the lesson and made great food! It was fancy.
Everything else is going well! Kate is still super awesome. She’s making relationships with the ward members and the members are being so great to her! She’s going on a mini mission this week! It’s a 4 day mission with some sister missionaries! We are both excited! We are getting a mini missionary too! We have Zone Conference tomorrow and will pick up our mini missionary there! πŸ™‚
Yesterday our ward had a Memorial Day picnic. It was lots of fun, our less active, Carol came! We were so excited to see her there! Oh, and WE GOT TO WEAR PANTS!!!Β  It was great, you don’t realize how much you miss jeans when you wear a skirt all day every day.
Anyways, things are good! Life is good and I love being a missionary! πŸ™‚
The gospel is true! Miracles happen! πŸ™‚

Hello wonderful family and friends!!

Kate got baptized this week!!!

Kate’s Baptism!!

Oh my goodness, I couldn’t be happier. It went SO well! She had a private baptism, so it was pretty much all missionaries. We were there, the Oakville elders, the Webster Groves elders, and Brother Davis from the bishopric and her friend Ryan. It was AMAZING! The Spirit was so strong! Elder Johnson baptized her and Elder Peterson confirmed her on Sunday. It was so joyful to see her enter the waters of baptism and receive the Holy Ghost. She has been waiting so long for this and she was finally able to make that covenant! πŸ™‚ She just glowed! She’s so happy and that makes me so happy. I love her!

The rest of the week was good too. πŸ™‚ We had a Sister’s P Day on Monday with the sisters in our zone. We played sports and had tons of fun. I learned that I’m super boss at ping-pong and not so boss at basketball/volleyball. #PingPongForTheWin

Oh! And we got to wear PANTS! Super weird. We also took Kate to the YSA FHE!!!! It was so fun! It was SO GREAT to see my YSA people again. We got to introduce Kate to some people because she will be going to the YSA soon. πŸ™‚

Super cute puppy at the Young Single Adult Family Home Evening.

Oh, we also got the cops called on us this week. Apparently Bella Villa has a no soliciting policy and I guess someone thought we were selling something. The cop talked to us and I think he thought it was pretty funny. Haha, he gave us a “warning” and let us leave. We weren’t doing anything illegal.

Lesson Learned: work through the members.

We had some great lessons with less actives this week. Christina (she came to the temple tour last week) fed us dinner AND CAME TO CHURCH!!! I was so happy! We texted her that morning but she didn’t answer so we weren’t sure if she’d come. But she did!!! πŸ™‚ She enjoyed Sacrament meeting. We also met with Carol this week, she’s doing well and LOVED the temple tours!

Church on Sunday was especially good. First off, Kate got confirmed! πŸ™‚ The talks were really good too. The stake seminary teacher spoke about seminary and her love for the scriptures. I learned a lot from her talk and remembered how amazing seminary was. Seminary and Institute are such great places to learn from the scriptures. πŸ™‚ The next speaker, Brother Wills spoke about how to study the scriptures and directed his talk to Kate! It was great, I learned more methods for studying. We study a lot as missionaries and it’s nice to have some new ideas. πŸ™‚

We got transfer calls on Saturday and I’m staying in Oakville to train Sister Lyons! πŸ™‚ I’m excited. I like this area and I’m growing to love the ward more and more. It’s a great place. πŸ™‚ Our whole district will be training this transfer.. #BabyDistrict Β πŸ™‚ I love the greenie fire!

I learned a lot this week. One thing I studied this week was being a consecrated missionary. Being a consecrated missionary means giving this our all. Everything we have. Working and serving with all our heart, might, mind and strength. Giving this our all is a small repayment of His all. Christ gave His all for us. I am so thankful for Him and the knowledge I have of His Atonement.

It was a good week. Missionary work has it’s ups and downs but we always smile! Life is good. πŸ™‚

Temple Grounds Tours round 2! 05/16/2016

Hello wonderful family and friends!!

I hope you all have had a good week!
This week was super amazing!!
I’ll start with Monday.. We went to the St. Louis Zoo with Kate!! It was super fun and rainy! We got to spend some time with her and get to know her. It was raining off and on that day so we still decided to go to the zoo! It was still really fun. πŸ™‚

05162016 SL Zoo

Kate, Sister Lyons and me at the St. Louis Zoo! It was super rainy!Β

We had dinner with a member family, one of the daughters is getting baptized in a couple weeks so we decided to share a scripture about the Holy Ghost. They all loved it and knew so much about the Holy Ghost! They are such an awesome family! πŸ™‚
We picked up a new investigator from the Elders in our ward named Kris. She’s hilarious! She’s a bit older but, man, does she have some spunk! Haha we had a good lesson. I can tell she really needs the gospel in her life. The elders were teaching her for a while and thought she might do better with sisters. She told us she didn’t like reading and didn’t want to read the Book of Mormon. We invited her to read just one verse (Moroni 7:41) before we met with her a few days later. When we called to confirm the appointment, she told us she hadn’t read it yet and that she didn’t think she’d have time to before our lesson. We encouraged her to read it. πŸ™‚ Guess what? She read it!! It was awesome. We had a great lesson with her. πŸ™‚
We met a less active member named Christina last week and had an appointment with her this week. We got to know her and her story. She showed us the scriptures she used when she was in seminary and she has this super old Bible. If you know me, you know I love the smell of old books.. She showed us her Bible and before I knew it I was asking if I could smell her Bible. She started laughing so hard! Sister Lyons was laughing/crying! Haha It was great. But then she invited us over for dinner. πŸ™‚ Moral of the story.. Ask to smell Bibles, get invited to dinner.

We also had exchanges this week! Sister Walker came to Oakville with me and Sister Lyons went to Fenton with Sister Bishop. It was so much fun! I learned so much from Sister Walker and we had some great lessons.

05162016 4 sistas

Exchanges with Sister Bishop and Sister Walker!Β

On Friday, we had a lesson with Carol again. She’s the one with all the birds. Kate came with us!! Kate is such a natural missionary! She bore testimony like a PRO!! She was also able to help Carol with some computer problems she was having.
Saturday was the TEMPLE GROUNDS TOURS!!!!! It was so great!!! I love giving tours. This time they extended the hours so we were there from 2-6. It was going to be chilly and windy, President Morgan asked us to wear our hair back and to check our skirts. haha πŸ™‚ We gave tours every 30 minutes. There were 3 sets of sisters conducting tours so we rotated every tour. It was super successful! There was about 125 people who came. πŸ™‚ Β We also got permission to bring them into the foyer in small groups at a time. That was really special. They had two mirrors on each side and you could see forever. πŸ™‚ Christina came, that was amazing. She loved the tour and felt the spirit so strongly! When we brought her in the foyer, she got emotional and hugged us before she left. She whispered “thank you so much” in my ear. That was a big testimony builder for me. She is starting to remember her testimony again.

05162016 photo bomb

Temple tours with Carol! Elder Johnson and McCulloch photo bombing.Β

Carol was also able to come. She loved it so much that she went on the tour twice! The first time, we took her inside and said a prayer with her in the waiting room. She asked what she needed to do to come to the temple and said she is willing to work towards the temple. πŸ™‚ She’s so amazing! She is taking steps in the right direction, the next one is coming to church. πŸ™‚

Kate also came. She loved it too.

She can’t wait to do baptisms for the dead after she is baptized. She is doing so well! Her baptism is this Saturday and she couldn’t be more excited!! I love her so much! She’s so prepared! πŸ™‚

Also while we were at the temple, I got to meet the temple president, President Clegg!
05162016 Pres Clegg

Me and President Clegg, the temple president.Β

When I went at my 6 month mark, he told us he and his wife presided over the England Manchester Mission, which is my dad’s mission! I didn’t get the chance to talk to him then, but he came out and introduced himself to our investigators and less actives. I asked him if he knew my dad and he said yes! It was super cool. He is such a nice man. That was a cool experience. πŸ™‚
All in all it was a great week! We met some amazing people and had a lot of cool experiences. I am so blessed to be a missionary and to be able to share the gospel with the people in St. Louis. I know that Heavenly Father Loves us!
A cool quote I heard this week is, “We tend to emulate those who we look up to” Β The Savior is the ultimate person we can look up to. When we look up to Him, and follow Him, and strive to be like Him, we can emulate His example and bless the lives of others. πŸ™‚
I love you all! Thank you so much for all you do!! πŸ™‚
