Good Week :) 8/1/2016

Hello wonderful family and friends!

I hope you are all doing great! This week was quite fabulous and a lot happened and I don’t have time to write everything! I’ll try my best. 🙂

We had a mini missionary with us this week! Her name is Charli, she’s super sweet and adorable! We had a lot of fun and some great experiences! We picked her up Tuesday morning and dropped her off on Sunday.

Picking up our mini missionary, Charlie!

Tuesday was great. We went to Highland and did some work out there. It’s super far away from Glen Carbon so we don’t get out there very much. We met with JR, he worked on the Kansas City temple and feels the Spirit so strongly around members. He brings the Book of Mormon to his Catholic church and reads it on his shift. haha it’s great!!!

Wednesday we went on exchanges with the Columbia sisters! Sister Ladow and Peel. They are both so sweet! I stayed in Glen Carbon with Sister Ladow and our mini missionary, Charlie. It was definitely an adventure!

Just another day in Potosi!!!!

Sister Ladow is from Provo and we had a blast! She goes home in 2 transfers and is such a great missionary. It was fun to spend more time with her. We picked up Sister Mier to come to a lesson. She’s the boldest, sassiest, most friendly person in the world! I love her!

We went to visit a less active. Katherine has been coming to church the past 4 weeks!!!! I’m so happy and excited for her. 🙂 I love when less actives come to church. 🙂 We had some other great lessons that day. We had one with Mona from the Philippines. She wants to be baptized!!! She’s so prepared and willing to learn. 🙂 She’s adorable. A guy in our ward just got back from his mission in the Philippines and he speaks Tagolig (no idea how to spell that) but him and Mona and Sister Low (another member from the Philippines) are besties now. So Connor came to our lesson and helped teach the gospel in Tagolig.

Thursday, Sister Williams and I were back together so that was nice.

We had some great lessons. We also Pow Wowd with the Assistants to the President. Pow Wows are cool.

The STLs and Zone Leaders meet with the APs to give recommendations for transfers. It was cool how inspired leaders are. The spirit is so strong and everything happens exactly as it needs to. We don’t decide anything at Pow Wows but the APs take it to President Bateman.
On Friday we had another exchange. I went to Potosi, MO with Sister Ellertson, and Sister Holland came to Glen Carbon with Sister Williams. It was a great exchange! They are doing great work in Potosi. We saw a lot of neat miracles. I met a lot of cool people. Sister Ellertson has been out for 4 months and is already a boss missionary!

Sunday was great. It was all about missionary work! We cover 2 wards and both sacrament meetings were about missionary work! Connor gave his homecoming talk, Brother Tucker spoke about Teaching in the Saviors Way. A YSA told his conversion story and another YSA told about his missionary experience in Nauvoo. SO COOL!!!  We also dropped Charlie off and they did a testimony meeting after the mini mission.

We went to the City Museum for P-day today with some other sisters. We went to Souel Taco too. My favorite place EVER!!! I love being in the City. 🙂

This week is going to be super great. We have exchanges with Centralia!!! (my 1st area!) I get to go to the Temple on Wednesday! We are getting another mini missionary on Thursday. And we have MLC on Friday. It’s going to be awesome!!! 🙂

Life is good. 🙂 I love being a missionary. So many wonderful miracles in the service of the Lord.

You are all amazing and I love you! Thank you for everything!

Pioneer Day activity! We were in charge of the games. 🙂

I’m seriously on a spiritual high because of all the miracles and the happy feelings this week. 🙂 It’s just one of those awesome weeks!

On Monday we had dinner with a new family in the ward. The Bensons have 8 kids and they are all super solid! The Mom is from Taiwan and the Dad is in the Air Force and they’ve moved a ton! They are super spunky and hilarious. I love them 🙂

Tuesday we had President Interviews and they did it by district. So we stayed for all of them. They were all good and I learned a lot from each one! I’m excited to continue working with President Bateman. We also got to spend some time with Sister Bateman and Sydnee.

Exchanges 1

Exchanges with the Jackson sisters! Sister Van Orman and Parker

Wednesday we started exchanges! We went to District Meeting in Cape Girardeau with the Jackson and Sikeston sisters. After DM we exchanged with Jackson. I went to their area with Sister Van Orman. It was super fun! We had some good lessons and got to know each other better! She’s super sweet.

Exchanges 2 7252016

Exchanges with the Sikeston sisters! Sisters Petersen and Gordon

On Thursday we did a back-to-back exchange with the Sikeston sisters. I came back to Glen Carbon with Sister Petersen! She came out at the same time as me so it was good to catch up with her. That was a good exchange, We saw so many miracles! We had a dinner appointment then a lesson after. We get to dinner and they had invited a couple who had just gotten married. The wife is from the Philippines and isn’t a member. Sister Cocrin asked who our next lesson was with and called and invited them to dinner too!! We ended up having a lesson with Mona AND Amy. We picked up both of them as new investigators! It was so amazing!! It was just a good day! We had back to back appointments all day and non of them fell through! So cool.

It was good to be with my companion and in our area again. 🙂 I’m very blessed to have Sister Williams as my companion. I’m learning so much from her!

It’s amazing how much the Lord blesses us. We didn’t have as much proselyting time this week because of DMs and drive time but we were still able to have amazing lessons and get so much done! When we do our best, He fills in the gaps.

It was a super long week but I blinked and it was over. Time is weird as a missionary.

When it’s so hot that your Tiwi card gets warped

Yesterday I had one of those moments. I thought to my self, “I love being a missionary.” I’m so happy all the time. I’m so blessed to have this opportunity. To see so many miracles every day and to see the Lord’s hand in all things. The gospel is the greatest thing and I get to share it all day long with as many people as I can. 🙂

I hope you all have gad a great week and have a fantastic week this week! You are all amazing and I appreciate everything you do for me! Thank you. 🙂 I love you!!

Wonderful family and friends! Hi. You are all awesome. 🙂
Well, it was a wonderful week!! It felt super long but went by fast at the same time.
Monday was great! We went to see the Columbia, IL sisters because Sister Ladow hurt her knee so we took them grocery shopping. 🙂 They are super sweet and it was fun to spend time with them! We also got ice cream. 🙂

I learned I have a natural talent for rolling tortillas! We had lunch at the Murphy’s on Tuesday and she taught me how to make tortillas! She’s the best cook ever. Their family has such a cool story. Her mom lives with them, she’s the cutest old Hispanic lady in the world. She just does her own little thing and is super sweet.

On Wednesday we had ZLT (Zone Leadership Training) in Cape Girardeau, MO. They had president interviews so we gave our training for each district. So we gave our training 4 times that day. But it’s good because I got a lot of practice! It was a long drive down there and it was nice to spend time with President and Sister Bateman. We trained on the Book of Mormon and how we can use it to answer questions that people have. The Zone Leaders trained on studying for our investigators which is perfect! We’ve been focusing on that a lot recently and it’s totally working!! I’m grateful for inspired mission leaders. They know just what our mission needs.
Thursday was the O’Fallon, IL ZLT. We had the whole zone together so we just did our training once. It was good to be with so many missionaries. We went to lunch with the Centralia sisters, Sister Knight and Sister Paige. Sister Paige just got here 2 weeks ago! They are killing it in Centralia. It was good to catch up on all my peeps.

The Ozone Sisters!!! (O’Fallon, IL) Sisters Williams, Paige, Knight, Ladow, and Peel

We had some super great lessons this week! I get to meet more and more people from the ward. I love this area. We have a whole mix of people. All of our investigators are really great. We have some great recent converts too! One man named Mark is the coolest guy ever! He loves the gospel so much! He’s reading the Book of Mormon and this will be the first book he’s read all the way through. One thing I like about this area is how much people love the gospel! This ward is a great example of not taking the gospel for granted.
Cool miracle of the week: We were walking back to our car and an older man pulls over and asked us for directions. We pull out our GPS and tell him where to go and share the gospel with him. He was so excited to talk about the gospel! We gave him a Book of Mormon and he was so grateful! We got his number and hopefully we can start teaching him soon!
Friday was my 1 year mark…… Super weird! It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long at all! I’ve definitely learned a lot and have come a long way. I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had and am looking forward to the rest of my mission. I feel like I’ve learned so much and I can just go to town the rest of my mission! I’m excited what the next 6 months will hold. 🙂 We went out to lunch to celebrate and I got a triple chocolate molten lava cake. It was the greatest thing in the world. 🙂 I also get to go to the temple next week and could not be more excited!!!!!!!!
The Book of Mormon is true. 🙂 I love reading it. I’m glad we were able to learn so much as we prepared our training. The Book of Mormon can truly help us answer so many questions. No matter what is going on in our lives. God knows us. Sometimes He answers our prayers through the scriptures.
I love you all! Thank you for everything!! Have a great week!!

Gleeeeennnn Carbon!!! 7/11/2016

Hello wonderful family and friends! I hope you are all doing fabulous!
This week went by super fast! We’ve been crazy busy and I LOVE it! We cover two wards, the Glen Carbon ward and the Edwardsville YSA branch! It’s great to be in YSA again. They are all just super solid! 🙂 my first Sunday was yesterday and I got to meet a TON of new people! I need to get better at remembering names. It’s a struggle. It’s different going into an area where your companion has been in the area. I’ve whitewashed so much that it’s a nice break. 🙂
We had some great lessons! Our area is really big so we have some travel time. Sister Clements is a member in the ward and she is the best member missionary ever! She always comes with us to lessons and gives us rides. She’s the best. I got to meet some of our investigators! We even set a baptism date! One of our recent converts is sick so we went to visit him and read the Book of Mormon with him. Mark is so solid, he just loves the gospel! Another recent convert is Lauraly. She’s 10. I actually got to teach her the restoration when I was here on exchanges last year! She’s super sweet and energetic about the gospel. 🙂 We had dinner with some great families in our ward. I’m super excited to serve here and get to know these wonderful people! 🙂
On Friday, we went to St. Louis for MLC (Mission Leadership Conference). We car pooled with the Springfield STLs so I got to see Sister Day again! It was really cool. We had trainings from the Assistants to the President and from President and Sister Bateman. We talked a lot about the Book of Mormon and how we can use it more effectively in our work. We take what we learn at MLC and present trainings at Zone Leadership Training this transfer. Our ZLTs are this week so that’ll be fun. 🙂
Miracle of the week: Sister Williams and I walked to a member’s house to give them a note. While we were walking, we ran into this lady named Shasta. She was playing with her son outside. We started talking to her and she’s been looking for a church ever since she moved here a few months ago! She’s super open to learning more and taking the missionary lessons!

Another Miracle of the week: We were trying this former investigators house in Highland and she doesn’t live there anymore. BUT the girl who does live there, her grandma met with missionaries and she is super interested in learning about our church and the Book of Mormon! It was such a tender mercy. I love missionary work. It’s all from the Lord. So many miracles.
One of my favorite things I’ve learned this week is how miraculous the Book of Mormon is. We are seriously so blessed to have the fullness of the gospel! The Book of Mormon is the tool for our conversion. It’s pretty much stories of other people’s conversion! We really can come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by reading it than by any other book. We can learn so much as we apply the teachings we read. I love the Book of Mormon. 🙂
It’s been a good and crazy week. Life is good and I love it! Sister Williams is a great companion and a great missionary. She’s taught me so much already!

The 4th of July and Transfer Day 7/5/2016

Hello my wonderful family and friends!! I hope you all have had a great 4th of July! Hope there were some great fireworks, family and food and such. 🙂
This week was pretty crazy! My birthday was last Monday and we went to the arch! We got to go inside it this time! It was AWESOME!! They put you in this little space ship looking thing. Super tiny. It’s a good thing I’m not claustrophobic.

We got to the top and you can see everything! You look out one side and you see St. Louis with all the stadiums (Cardinals, Blues, and the Rams) All the big buildings and universities.

And you look out the other side and see the Mississippi river and Illinois! It’s a big river. Then we went to Fitz’s and got their famous root beer.

We had a dinner appointment with a member family and they surprised me for my birthday! They called my mom and made my favorite cake, had streamers and a table cloth and sang me happy birthday. It was so great! They’re so thoughtful! 🙂

We found a super awesome potential named Charlie last week. We had two appointments with him this week. The first was on Tuesday and went super well! We taught him about the Book of Mormon with Leah, a laurel from the ward. He accepted the invitation to baptism!! He accepts everything we teach really well and he’s ready to dive in! He also has a pet alligator. He keeps it in a tank in his living room. We also taught the restoration and he loved it! He’s so ready to accept the gospel!

We had a district contacting challenge this week. We needed to leave a commitment with everyone in the form of a “will you” question. It was so great! It’s so effective! We won the challenge. #AllWeDoIsWin
District 752016
Guess who came to church on Sunday? Everybody!!!!!!! Seriously, we had so many people. Moose and Dave (Dave is our investigator, Moose is a returning less active) Charlie came, and CAROL came!!! I was so happy I about died. The elders had a few people come too. Gospel Principles was packed!!
Saturday was fantastic. We got to meet our new mission president! President and Sister Bateman and their daughter Sydney. They are amazing! We got to know them and they spoke to us for a while. I’m excited to see what they do in our mission. They have so much energy! After the meeting, one of the APs told me President Bateman wanted to speak with me. *insert jolt of slight panic* So I walked over and he talked to me for a bit. He said he had a new assignment for me, he asked me to be a Sister Training Leader! I’m really excited for this new opportunity. It’s a big responsibility and I’m a little nervous. 🙂 As an STL, I’ll go on exchanges and present trainings. It’s almost like being a Zone Leader.. but different.
So that means that I transferred. I’m already in my new area. It’s called Highland but it’s in Glen Carbon in the O’Fallon, IL zone. Which means I get to go on exchanges to my first area CENTRALIA! So happy!! I’m glad to be back in Illinois. I missed the corn fields. 🙂 My companion is Sister Williams. She’s from Mesquite, Nevada. All her cousins live in Cedar City and I know them from school! Small world. She’s super awesome! I’ve only been her companion for a couple hours. 🙂  Sister Lyons is staying in Oakville and is companions with Sister Edholm.
All in all, it was a great week. I’m sad to leave Oakville but excited for my new adventure in Glen Carbon, IL. 🙂
I love you all! Have a great week! Thank you for everything.

When’s your Happy Birthday?… Today!!!! 6/27/2016

Well. Today is my birthday! Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!!! It’s been so great to hear from all of you! It’s been a great day so far. 🙂 Celebrating things on your mission is the best! You get to spread the gospel! We are also going to the Arch today. 🙂 Also…. we get to listen to P-day music 😉

SmilesANDPants 6272016

We had to take a weird selfie because we were wearing pants.

This week was so fabulous!! The days blend together and time seems to go so fast! Sickness seems to be a part of missionary life from time to time so we didn’t get as much proselyting time as we would have liked. But we are better now. 🙂 We had some great lessons with people! We also helped a family move. They are employees of our ward mission leader and not members. There were 3 sets of missionaries and it was the hottest day of the year so far. I think moving boxes should be considered a water sport. Never sweated so much in my life. We were all soaked! Yay for humidity! Haha but it was fun and we got to know the family pretty well! Oh, and we got to wear pants!!!

We did a lot of apartment contacting this week. Apartment managers can’t get mad at you for soliciting (even if you’re NOT solicitors) if you’re just walking around! It was super effective! We found solid potentials and made some return appointments. We also did some street contacting/tracting. We walk around and knock on random doors we feel inspired to knock on. Cool experience: We were walking and I felt like we needed to knock on this door, we went back and knocked and no one was home. Ok, whatever, we left a card. But right as we were leaving, the neighbor got out of her car! We started talking to her and had a great conversation! She want’s us to come back and teach her more!! Lesson learned: follow promptings. Often times, the reason we get a prompting isn’t directly related to what we actually need to do. It’s been cool to learn the language of the Spirit more on my mission. As missionaries, we get spiritual promptings all the time but we don’t recognize them as promptings right away. The Spirit is everywhere in missionary work! 🙂
As you know, Sister Lyons is from Canada and she totes has a Canadian accent. My favorites for the week were  swAgger wAgon, bAgpipes, and covered wAgons. It’s the best! We have fun together. 🙂

I hope you all have a great week! Don’t forget to read the scriptures! I love you all so much! Thanks again for the birthday wishes! 🙂
